Pregnancy Calendar: You are now 20 weeks pregnant
Week 20 of fetal development
You will look noticeably pregnant now as your belly shows an obvious bulge. Your uterus is just below your naval. You may also notice red or brown streaks – stretch marks on your abdomen.
The baby’s skin starts to thicken. At this time special sebaceous glands start to secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa, which protects the baby’s fragile skin. Scalp, hair and toenails are also beginning to grow. The baby’s heartbeat can be heard by ultrasonic Doppler.
Dos and Don’ts
You may develop backache as the growing uterus may pull the back ligaments.
Keep your back straight and don’t bend. Don’t wear high heel shoes.
Eat sensible, low calorie balanced meals.
Go for a regular antenatal check-up.
