Having Fun with Grandchildren

What can be more exciting for grandparents than their grandchildren visiting them. And nothing could be more exciting for the children. The fact that life at grandpa’s place is so different from the one they spend with their parents is what makes it so memorable. Working moms don’t get much time to bake cookies and busy dads don’t get around to going swimming or having a game of chess.

A thousand things can be done if you exercise a little ingenuity. And then watch the savvy computer kids fall for more “homespun” pleasures!

Exploring places around is a sure favourite – be it walks to parks or museums. The idea is to do things differently. A visit to a proper restaurant or coffee shop instead of fast food chain outlets would be interesting. So would an introduction to the games that the grandparents played as children instead of computer games.

Taking out the family album could be fun too. For, every photograph tells a story — of when the grandparents were children and then of their children! It is the right opportunity to encourage the grandchildren to build their own family album with some descriptive lines about each member of the family.

Older children staying for a weekend or longer might like to help their grandfather with a do-it-yourself project, putting in a pond or laying a few paving stones.

Be it sailing paper boats or reading out to the children, grandparents can start off the new generation into a lifetime of precious memories.
