24 weeks old fetus (baby)

Week 24 of fetal development

Your uterus is expanding at a fast speed now. This may result in stretch marks on your abdomen. Your weight gain may be taking it’s toll. Backache, bladder problems, sore feet and general fatigue may all affect you from now on.

Your baby

The baby’s eyes are still shut but the face is now more or less complete. Eyelashes are developed and scalp hair is growing. Your baby weighs roughly around 530 gm and fills the uterus to restrict the movements. The baby can no longer somersault within the amniotic fluid.

Dos and Don’ts

  • If you are working, try to put your feet up every now and then.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Don’t scratch your tummy and gently apply vitamin E oil to reduce stretch marks.
  • Be relaxed and calm as your baby is increasingly conscious of the outside world.
  • Eat sensibly so that you don’t put on extra weight.
  • Continue light exercises.
  • Maintain intimacy with your partner.
  • Take the first dose of tetanus toxoid injection.
