21 weeks old fetus (baby)

Week 21 of fetal development

Your uterus is now just above the naval. As the baby gets enough space to move, the baby can turn upside down and baby’s position can be changed. Baby may sit cross-legged or recline to put the hand in the mouth, though the baby cannot suck as yet. As your baby is gaining weight fast now you should eat healthy diet. Overall your daily calorie requirement is about 2500 calories. It is important however to complete the calorie requirement by eating balanced meal and not by eating junk food. The need for protein is double in pregnancy and also calcium, iron, folic acid and vitamin. Little amount of fat and carbohydrate is also important. During pregnancy, the volume of blood flowing around your body doubles so maintains a high fluid intake. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

Your baby

Your baby’s red cells are increasing and infection-fighting white cells are beginning to be manufactured. Baby’s eyelids are still shut.
